The National Weather Service Using BlackBerry to Map Storm Damage The National Weather Service Southern Region has licensed Freeance Mobile software to push ESRI map services out to BlackBerry smartphones. The Southern Region plans on utilizing BlackBerry smartphones for storm damage mapping and other related field events that require map viewing and GPS map point logging. Freeance Mobile will allow the National Weather Service to combine two existing platforms, ESRI ArcGIS and BlackBerry in-house with easy-to-use plug-and-play configuration software.

The GIS Department of the second-largest county in the United States recently invested in Freeance Mobile software - Standard Edition. Working with Cook County's IT Department, and assisted by the ESRI St Paul regional office, TDC is scheduling implementation and training to help Cook County build and maintain GIS applications on BlackBerry smartphones.

BlackBerry Curves and Storms on the Vodafone network are being used to test GIS use cases before moving up to Freeance Mobile - Standard Edition.
